Advances in Computing and Information Technology
by Natarajan Meghanathan, Dhinaharan Nagamalai, Nabendu Chaki

The international conference on Advances in Computing and Information technology (ACITY 2012) provides an excellent international forum for both academics and professionals for sharing knowledge and results in theory, methodology and applications of Computer Science and Information Technology. The Second International Conference on Advances in Computing and Information technology (ACITY 2012), held in Chennai, India, during July 13-15, 2012, covered a number of topics in all major fields of Computer Science and Information Technology including: networking and communications, network security and applications, web and internet computing, ubiquitous computing, algorithms, bioinformatics, digital image processing and pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, soft computing and applications. Upon a strength review process, a number of high-quality, presenting not only innovative ideas but also a founded evaluation and a strong argumentation of the same, were selected and collected in the present proceedings, that is composed of three different volumes.

Advances in Signal Transforms
by Jaakko Astola, Leonid Yaroslavsky

“Digital signal transforms are of a fundamental value in digital signal and image processing. Their role is manifold. Transforms selected appropriately enable substantial compressing signals and images for storage and transmission. No signal recovery, image reconstruction and restoration task can be efficiently solved without using digital signal transforms. Transforms are successfully used for logic design and digital data encryption. Fast transforms are the main tools for acceleration of computations in digital signal and image processing. The volume collects in one book most recent developments in the theory and practice of the design and usage of transforms in digital signal and image processing. It emerged from the series of reports published by Tampere International Centre for Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology. For the volume, all contributions are appropriately updated to represent the state of the art in the field and to cover the most recent developments in different aspects of the theory and applications of transforms. The book consists of two parts that represent two major directions in the field: development of new transforms and development of transform based signal and image processing algorithms. The first part contains four chapters devoted to recent advances in transforms for image compression and switching and logic design and to new fast transforms for digital holography and tomography. In the second part, advanced transform based signal and image algorithms are considered: signal and image local adaptive restoration methods and two complementing families of signal and image re-sampling algorithms, fast transform based discrete sinc-interpolation and spline theory based ones.”–Publisher.

Integrated Circuit and System Design
by Enrico Macii, Vassilis Paliouras, Odysseas Koufopavlou

WelcometotheproceedingsofPATMOS2004,thefourteenthinaseriesofint- national workshops. PATMOS 2004 was organized by the University of Patras with technical co-sponsorship from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Over the years, the PATMOS meeting has evolved into an important – ropean event, where industry and academia meet to discuss power and timing aspects in modern integrated circuit and system design. PATMOS provides a forum for researchers to discuss and investigate the emerging challenges in – sign methodologies and tools required to develop the upcoming generations of integrated circuits and systems. We realized this vision this year by providing a technical program that contained state-of-the-art technical contributions, a keynote speech, three invited talks and two embedded tutorials. The technical program focused on timing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects, with particular emphasis on modelling, design, charac- rization, analysis and optimization in the nanometer era. This year a record 152 contributions were received to be considered for p- sible presentation at PATMOS. Despite the choice for an intense three-day m- ting, only 51 lecture papers and 34 poster papers could be accommodated in the single-track technical program. The Technical Program Committee, with the – sistance of additional expert reviewers, selected the 85 papers to be presented at PATMOS and organized them into 13 technical sessions. As was the case with the PATMOS workshops, the review process was anonymous, full papers were required, and several reviews were received per manuscript.

Integrated Circuit and System Design. Power and Timing Modeling, Optimization and Simulation
by Nadine Azemard

th Welcome to the proceedings of PATMOS 2007, the 17 in a series of international workshops. PATMOS 2007 was organized by Chalmers University of Technology with IEEE Sweden Chapter of the Solid-State Circuit Society technical – sponsorship and IEEE CEDA sponsorship. Over the years, PATMOS has evolved into an important European event, where – searchers from both industry and academia discuss and investigate the emerging ch- lenges in future and contemporary applications, design methodologies, and tools – quired for the development of the upcoming generations of integrated circuits and systems. The technical program of PATMOS 2007 consisted of state-of-the-art te- nical contributions, three invited talks and an industrial session on design challenges in real-life projects. The technical program focused on timing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects with particular emphasis on m- eling, design, characterization, analysis and optimization in the nanometer era. The Technical Program Committee, with the assistance of additional expert – viewers, selected the 55 papers presented at PATMOS. The papers were organized into 9 technical sessions and 3 poster sessions. As is always the case with the PATMOS workshops, full papers were required, and several reviews were received per manuscript.

Fundamentals of Computer Organization and Design
by Sivarama P. Dandamudi

This advanced textbook provides a comprehensive survey of hardware and software architectural principles and methods of computer systems organization and design. It covers both CISC and RISC processors in detail, presenting Pentium, PowerPC, MIPS, SPARC and Itanium. In addition, assembly language programming for both CISC (Pentium) and RISC (MIPS) processors is covered in detail. Numerous assembly language code examples are included to give hands-on experience to students. These examples are not code fragments, but completely working programs that the students can run when they download the free assemblers. Topics and features: * Detailed discussion of digital logic and memory design * Concepts are related to practical designs and implementations * Presentation of material is suitable for self-study * Extensive examples and figures are used to help students grasp the concepts * Large number of end-of-chapter exercises will reinforce the concepts discussed in the chapter * Free assembler information for students to download from book website * Each chapter begins with an overview and ends with a summary.
